Greek & Chinese shipping enhance newbuilding links

Looking for setting closer ties with Chinese shipping firms with the prospect of more business and attractive finance a delegation of Greek ship-owners and Greek shipping minister Yannis Diamantidis met in China with shipping leaders.  During several meetings with state-controlled shipping giant Cosco, company chief Captain Wei Jiafu indicated that it could charter ships ordered by Greeks at Chinese yards.   Chinese banks also promised to become more competitive in their lending practices.

It is necessary Chinese banks to provide low interests & efficient facilities in comparison to Western banks, and for this purpose Greek mission participated in talks in Beijing between China Development Bank, Bank of China and Export-Import Bank of China (China Eximbank) toward adjustments in the banks’ policies.
A deepening of maritime relationships between the two countries following the signing of a maritime “Action Plan” was also announced.  The plan identified closer ties in training, marketing shipping interests and organising “know-how exchanges”.  The agreement will also focus on “hub-port co-operation” and “the funding for the construction of more Greek ships at Chinese shipyards”.
