Maritime Cyprus 2011

The Cyprus flag has a great perspective to expand further in the next few years as has already been one of the greatest and most quality flags in shipping. Maritime Cyprus Conference outcome which marked a large participation proving once again that it is one of the most popular shipping conferences in the globe.

In a nutshell the conference on Monday, started its deliberations by examining whether shipping is safe and we had panel discussions in relation to Countering Piracy and Seafarers and the Human Element, which are the major concerns of those involved in the international maritime transport. A high level panel consisting of the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus and the Chairman of the International Chamber of Shipping elaborated extensively on the measures already taken to counter piracy.

The issue of armed guards onboard ships was a central key issue for the panel and several advantages and disadvantages have been discussed. Of vital importance was the information given by Dr. Erato Kozakoy Markouli regarding the new draft bill on countering piracy prepared by the Cyprus Government which will be ready for enactment very soon.
