Piraeus Marine Club 11th P&I Conference

The catastrophic incidents of “RENA” & “COSTA CONCORDIA” were on the spotlight of the 11th P&I Conference. Mr. George Gourdomichalis (G Bros Maritime SA) – Chairman of BoD of the Piraeus Marine Club opened the event and Ms. Maria Prevezanou (Evmar Marine Services) – Treasurer of the BoD of the Piraeus Marine Club – organiser of the conference presented the speakers and Mr. Lou Kollakis (Chartworld Shipping Corp.) – Chairman of the meeting introduced to the audience the topics of the conference.

“The anatomy of a catastrophic claim and the special role of a club in handling it” (Example of recent M/V RENA  claim)” was the 1st topic of the event. Mr. Lars Rhodin from The Swedish Club commented about risk: “Quite likely that something unlikely will happen” (Aristotle). He continued “people tend to forget, so we have to understand the past showing less tolerance today”.  Each case, unique of its own, we have operational, legal issues, prescribing comprehension and political issues.
