Shipping has been of vital importance for the Greek economy

According to the official presentation of a study of shipping and its role in the Greek society made by the Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE) the maritime industry could contribute €26bn, almost double the 2012 total, and add up to 550,000 jobs accounting for 10% of Greece’s economy. The maritime sector currently accounts for 6.8% of GDP.

The current and potential contribution of the oceangoing shipping to the Greek economy has been of vital importance and therefore Greek shipping must remain competitive and free to compete other shipping nations which are supported by extra subsidies and cargoes.

IOBE’s research underlines the importance of Greek Shipping, the role and contribution for the welfare of Greek shipping and Greece.
