Greek shipping firms at the forefront of LNG global market

Greek shipowners are leading the way not only in the sector of conventional tramp ships but also in the field of LNG carriers. According to Clarkson Research, almost half of LNG carriers ordered or under construction globally are destined to a Greek shipping company. These LNG carrier orders made by Greek companies represent a value of up to $10bn.

It must be noted that Maran Gas has heavily invested on LNG vessels with a current fleet of 9 LNGs and has on order 6×159.800cbm, 2×174.000 and 9×164.000cbm vessels. GasLog has a fleet of 11 LNG carriers and 3×155.000 & 3×174.500cbm LNGs on order. Tsakos Group has 1 LNG in service and 1×174.000cbm LNG under construction. Dynagas has 6 LNG vessels and another 4×162.000cbm under construction. Other Greek shipping companies involved in the LNG market are TMS Cardiff Gas with 1 LNG in service and 4×159.760cbm under construction & Thenamaris with 1 LNG in its fleet and 2×160.000cbm under construction. Finally, Alpha Tankers & Freighters has 1x LNG160.000 cbm under construction.
