“Shaping the future of Marine Fuels by 2020 and beyond”

By 2020, all ships will have to comply with the new sulphur marine fuel regulations. Instead of the present 3,5% limit, as of 01.01.2020 marine fuels must contain no more than 0,5% sulphur, apart from the ECA areas, where sulphur limits will remain at 0.1%. At present, there is only a limited number of realistic fuel options, which include the use of High Sulphur Fuel Oil (HSFO) on ships fitted with scrubbers, Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (LSFO), Marine Gasoil or other alternatives such as 0.5% MDO or MGO. ELNAVI has recently visited BMS United at their headquarters in Piraeus, to have an in-depth discussion with the industry leading Bunker Trading company with regards to the 2020 Cap.
